Next will reopen many of its stores from mid-June

Popular fashion retailer Next has said it will open some of its stores next month.

The chain is to reopen 25 of its branches from June 15, in line with the government announcing that non-essential shops can open their doors again.

The Prime Minister Boris Johnson said shops can reopen from this date as long as they are safe, BirminghamLive has reported.

Next has not yet confirmed the exact locations but indicated the branches to reopen would be the bigger stores, outside of town centres.

The chain has about 500 stores and sells home furnishings, womenswear, childrenswear and men's clothing.

Some of the John Lewis stores will also reopen as part of a phased plan.

There is around 12 stores set to open and they will mostly be the stores more accessible by car.

Waitrose stores, which are part of the John Lewis Partnership, have remained open.

The retailer said: "Depending on the response from customers and partners to our new ways of operating with respect to social distancing, more shops will open throughout the summer."
