Next Wexford hurling manager odds: Bookies release odds who could take Davy Fitzgerald's job

JJ Doyle is the bookies' frontrunner to take over from Davy Fitzgerald as Wexford hurling manager should he leave.

Fitzgerald said today that his "heart is torn" over whether to stay at Wexford, revealing he will make up his mind in "the next day or two".

After three years making the long commute from his Sixmilebridge home in Clare, speculation has been rife that Fitzgerald will leave the Yellowbellies.

Paddy Power have since suspended betting on him taking over the vacant Galway hurling job after a flurry of bet on the 48-year-old.

And now they have gone a step further in pricing up who will his successor and it is Doyle (7/4) who leads the way.

Doyle led the Wexford camogie team to three successive All-Ireland titles between 2010 and 2012 and has worked as the men's U21 manager and selector for the senior squad in recent years.

But, according to the latest odds, he faces competition from some heavyweight names with Derek McGrath (11/4) next in the betting, followed by Kilkenny legends Henry Shefflin (11/2) and DJ Carey at 13/2

A Paddy Power spokesperson said: “He might be small in stature, but Davy leaves big boots to fill in Wexford and camogie king JJ Doyle might be the very man to do it,”  a spokesperson for Paddy Power said.

“Davy’s potential move to Galway will reduce his commute by a third, backing our theory that the Clare man must be freaking out about his fuel costs if this new carbon tax is introduced!”
