Next West Brom manager odds: Former Bristol City boss joins Lampard and Wilder in running

Derek McInnes is the surprise name among the leading contenders to take over as the new West Brom manager, with the former Bristol City boss joining Frank Lampard, Chris Wilder and Michael Appleton as bookmakers' favourites.

The Baggies are in need of a new permanent manager following Sam Allardyce's decision to step down in the wake of their Premier League relegation and the expectation from within the Hawthorns will be to make an immediate return to the top-flight.

McInnes was sacked by Aberdeen in March after an eight-year reign in which he led the Dons to the Scottish League Cup in 2014 and four second-place finishes in the Premiership.

That has been his only job since leaving Ashton Gate in 2013 after a 16-month spell as Robins manager in which he kept the club in the Championship in 2012 but fell victim to poor financial management and disorganisation behind the scenes.

Chris Wilder remains favourite for the Baggies job, having left Sheffield United earlier this year and with the job the 53-year-old did at Bramall Lane appealing to any club looking for a new manager.

Wilder is priced 5/4 by SkyBet followed by Lincoln City manager Michael Appleton who served as West Brom caretaker boss in 2011 and last week narrowly missed out on Championship promotion, losing to Blackpool in the League One play-off final.

Former Chelsea boss Frank Lampard is considered 8/1 to take over, and return to the Championship having served an apprenticeship with Derby County in 2018/19, then followed by McInnes and Roy Hodgson at 12/1.
