Next week’s Illinois House session canceled

The Illinois House of Representatives has canceled next week’s session, according to an email House Speaker Mike Madigan’s chief of staff sent to lawmakers Wednesday.

Both the chambers of the Illinois General Assembly also had canceled sessions this week, as large gatherings across the country were called off in hopes of slowing the spread of the coronavirus.

Chief of Staff Jessica Basham also told representatives to begin “re-evaluating any and all travel plans,” including during the legislature’s spring break, April 5-12.

“This is not only due to the need to practice social distancing to safeguard the health of our communities, but also due to the possible need to return to Springfield for session during that time period,” Basham wrote.
