Next Tottenham manager: The names in the frame for Spurs job as Mauricio Pochettino is sacked

Mauricio Pochettino's five-and-a-half year tenure as Tottenham Hotspur manager has come to an end.

Pochettino and his coaching staff have been sacked by the club, following a poor start to the 2019/20 season.

Spurs sit 14th in the Premier League table, following just three wins from their opening 12 games and have not won an away game since January.

It has been an awful run of form, with that incredible Champions League run masking what was happening domestically.

Many supporters hoped Pochettino would be able to turn it around, but chairman Daniel Levy has wielded the axe.

A statement from Levy said: "Regrettably domestic results at the end of last season and beginning of this season have been extremely disappointing. It falls to the board to make the difficult decisions - this one made more so given the many memorable moments we have had with Mauricio and his coaching staff - but we do so in the club's best interests.

"Mauricio and his coaching staff will always be part of our history. I have the utmost admiration for the manner in which he dealt with the difficult times away from a home ground whilst we built the new stadium and for the warmth and positivity he brought to us.

Everything you need to know about the January transfer window

"I should like to thank him and his coaching staff for all they have contributed. They will always be welcome here.

"We have a talented squad. We need to re-energise and look to deliver a positive season for our supporters.

"We shall provide an update on new coaching staff in due course."

So who are the names in the frame to replace Pochettino in N17?

Jose Mourinho

Has been out of work since leaving Manchester United in January.

Had two stints with Chelsea and is a proven winner, having won the Premier League and the Champions League.

Would require money to build the team he wanted and is a divisive figure.

Would upset many fans with his style of football.

Massimiliano Allegri

Former Juventus manager is another who is out of work and would therefore not require any compensation.

Like Mourinho is a proven winner, the sort of manager many Spurs fans have been crying out for.

Would he come to Tottenham though?

Is a role in N17 a big enough draw for him?

Eddie Howe

Can we still call him an up-and-coming manager in the Premier League?

Has been the Bournemouth manager since 2012, taking them from League One to the Premier League.

Has spent the past four seasons in the top flight with the Cherries and plays an attractive brand of football.

Is he a big enough name for the Tottenham fans?

Rafael Benitez

Won the Champions League with Liverpool and has a wealth of Premier League experience, with Chelsea and Newcastle United too.

Has admitted that he has "unfinished business" in the Premier League.

But he is currently in the Chinese Super League with Dalian Yifang.

May not be a popular choice with the fans.
