Next Tottenham manager: Jose Mourinho has already hinted at his next move after sacking

Jose Mourinho can now realise his dream of managing a national team.

The big news coming out of Tottenham Hotspur on Monday morning is that the Portuguese tactician has been relieved of his duties at Spurs, 17 months after being appointed to replace Mauricio Pochettino.

A statement on the club website read: "The club can today announce that Jose Mourinho and his coaching staff Joao Sacramento, Nuno Santos, Carlos Lalin and Giovanni Cerra have been relieved of their duties."

"Chairman, Daniel Levy, said: "Jose and his coaching staff have been with us through some of our most challenging times as a club. Jose is a true professional who showed enormous resilience during the pandemic.

"On a personal level I have enjoyed working with him and regret that things have not worked out as we both had envisaged.

"He will always be welcome here and we should like to thank him and his coaching staff for their contribution."

"Ryan Mason will take first team training today and a further update will follow in due course."

It remains to be seen what Mourinho will do next now that his time in north London has come to an end, but he has previously revealed that he would love to move into international football in the future.

"Yes, I want to coach a national team, I want to have the experience of a World Cup and European Championship, the emotion of the short competition," Mourinho told a news conference earlier in the season.

However, Mourinho is not sure about managing his native Portugal.

"Is Portugal the one I want? On one side yes as it is my heart," he added. "But it is very difficult to do it with the country you were born in."

With that said, at the time Mourinho was in no rush to call time on his career in club management.
