Next steps FA will take following Everton boss Carlo Ancelotti's red card in Manchester United draw

The FA are set to decide whether to charge Everton manager Carlo Ancelotti after his red card following the final whistle of Sunday's 1-1 draw with Manchester United at Goodison Park.

Tempers were running high between both sides throughout the match and boiled over for the Blues after they had a late winner ruled out by VAR.

Ancelotti confronted referee Chris Kavanagh after the full time whistle was blown and was subsequently sent off, and could now face an FA charge.

The organisation have three days following the incident to decide whether to charge the Everton boss after reading the report submitted by the match official.

The boss could otherwise receive a warning, a reminder of his responsibilities or face no further action.

If the Italian is charged by the FA, then he would have to respond by no later than 6pm on the third day after it was received - with a touchline ban possible.

Ancelotti's dismissal followed a hectic and controversial end to Everton's draw with Manchester United, with the match officials and VAR at the centre of it all.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin's strike in added time deflected off Harry Maguire and trickled beyond David De Gea at the near post, but Gylfi Sigurdsson was later judged to be offside and affecting the play by the officials at Stockley Park.

The Iceland international was brought down inside the box after seeing a shot saved, but officials didn't award the hosts a penalty as it was not deemed to be a clear and obvious error.

After a long period of confusion, the goal was chalked off and the game ended as a draw.

Ancelotti told his post-match press conference :  "I ask for an explanation after the game. There was a misunderstanding on the pitch he sent me off. After that I spoke with him calmly in the dressing room. I want to keep the conversation private and he will make a report for the referee.

"I didn’t disrespect to him but I can understand the end of the game was really exciting. It can happen but we will see if I am banned."
