Next step of Everton hero Tim Cahill's career confirmed

Everton hero Tim Cahill is joining the BBC Match of the Day crew for the forthcoming Premier League season.

The Goodison favourite, who scored 68 goals in 256 games during his eight years at Everton, is part of a new batch of pundits joining the much-loved Saturday night (and now of course Sunday night as well) institution.

MOTD announced the news on their Twitter feed by sharing footage of one of the Aussie hitman's breakthrough goals - his FA Cup semi-final winner for Millwall against Sunderland in 2004, just a few months before his £1.5m to Goodison - with the words: "Looking forward to more big moments from Tim Cahill this season with #bbcfootball"

In another Blues connection, MOTD anchor Gary Lineker - who scored 40 goals in his one season at Goodison in the mid 1980s - will be celebrating his 20th season with the programme.

Other new acquisitions to MOTD for 2019/20 include former Liverpool and England striker Peter Crouch, former Manchester City defender Micah Richards and England Lionesses legend Karen Carney.

The show returns at 10.30pm this Saturday night for the opening set of Premier League fixtures, with Match of the Day 2 airing at the same time on the same channel on Sunday evening.
