Next phase of Bruntwood's £1m office revamp

A Birmingham office building is set to undergo the next phase of a £1 million renovation.

Commercial property group Bruntwood is revamping Cornwall Buildings, at the corner of Newhall Street and Cornwall Street, and has already welcomed a new lounge, meeting spaces and the latest AV technology.

The next phase, due to start in September, includes a new manned barista coffee station in reception, a so-called 'host pod' to remove the traditional reception desk barrier and new seating areas on the ground floor.

There will also be new lighting and greenery in public spaces throughout the building.

The scheme, which is expected to be completed in early 2020, will focus on the ground floor, corridors, staircases and kitchens across the four-storey building, with office suites also undergoing a revamp.

The revamp of the grade II-listed building has been designed by Birmingham practice Associated Architects.

Director Rob Valentine said: "The building has an incredibly rich heritage and we've ensured that we pay homage to its unique character throughout the refurbishment, preserving and restoring its original features to help create our sophisticated 'boutique' feel."

A selection of artwork will also be displayed around Cornwall Buildings including pieces from local artists Joyce Treasure and Suzi Osborn who were awarded places as 'artists in residence' as part of a partnership between Bruntwood and Birmingham arts body Grand Union earlier in the year.
