Next Northern Ireland manager interviews done as fifth candidate emerges

Irish FA chiefs hope to name the new Northern Ireland manager in the next 24 hours.

Leading contenders Stephen Robinson, Tommy Wright, Ian Baraclough and Jim Magilton are all understood to have been interviewed yesterday.

And a fifth candidate has emerged with current Northern Ireland Women's manager Kenny Shiels also believed to be in the running.

The IFA are seeking a successor to Michael O'Neill who stepped down after eight years back in April to focus on his job at Stoke City.

It is understood each manager had to prepare a presentation on the forthcoming Euro playoff against Bosnia-Herzegovina and answer a series of questions on how to build on the momentum of O'Neill's reign.

The IFA's Board is due to meet tonight to ratify a decision, with candidates then informed by tomorrow morning.

Former St Johnstone boss Wright (6.4) is the slight favourite with the bookmakers, just ahead of current Under 21s manager Baraclough (7/4) and Motherwell's Robinson (3/1).

You can get Magilton at 10/1 while Shiels appears a long-shot at 33/1 (odds from SkyBet).

The IFA are looking to give the new manager plenty of time to bed in before Northern Ireland's next games.

They have a Nations League double-header in September before facing Bosnia in Zenica on October 8.

The IFA's interview panel is comprised of Irish FA chief executive Patrick Nelson, president David Martin, chairman Gerry Mallon and Neil Jardine of the Fermanagh and Western League.
