Mauricio Pochettino is United’s No1 choice to succeed Jose Mourinho on a full time basis, with club legend Ole Gunnar Solskjaer having been giving the reigns till the end of the season.
But the Norwegian, who famously scored the stoppage winner to seal the Champions League trophy and United’s treble triumph in ’99, has other ideas.
The 45-year-old has won all five of his matches in charge of the club to match the record start made by Sir Matt Busby back in the 1946-47 season.
That said, his side are yet to face a Premier League side of the calibre of Tottenham.
Pochettino himself has been relatively tight-lipped on the speculation linking him with Old Trafford, while Spurs will fight tooth and nail to keep him.
Sunday’s result will not decide which of the two will be sat in United’s dugout next season, but it certainly adds fuel to the narrative.
