Next Man United manager: Mauricio Pochettino would move to Old Trafford ‘tomorrow’, claims Gary Neville

Gary Neville believes Mauricio Pochettino would have no hesitation in accepting the role of Manchester United manager if offered.

The former Tottenham boss has once again been linked with the Old Trafford hotseat after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was sacked after nearly three years in charge on Sunday following a disastrous run of five defeats in seven Premier League matches that hit a new low with the 4-1 thrashing by Watford.

Some reports suggest that Pochettino would be willing to take the United job next summer as he targets a return to the Premier League, though others claim he is open to the move immediately due to being frustrated at Paris Saint-Germain.

Solskjaer assistant and former long-serving midfielder Michael Carrick has been placed in temporary charge as United search for an initial interim replacement for the Norwegian, with the idea to make a long-term appointment next summer.

But Neville thinks that Pochettino would jump at the chance to succeed Solskjaer on a long-term contract now.

"I think Mauricio Pochettino - although he'd never say it - would leave to come to Man United on a five-year deal tomorrow," he said on Sky Sports.

"He'd look at that group of players, he'd look at the club and he'd realise he'd probably be able to achieve more than he wants at Man Utd in terms of a project.

"At PSG you are on season by season, 'you've got to win the Champions League or you're out'- type of model. I don't think that suits Pochettino. I think he would absolutely come to Man United on a five-year deal, with backing behind him."
