Next Ireland to reopen online operation after stores closed in March

Next Ireland is set to reopen its online operation after stores were forced to close last month.

The popular chain will initially offer "most needed" sections such a childswear and certain home items.

Other popular products may be made available at a later date.

The businesses' website, which brings in roughly half its revenue, has been off since March 26, RTE News reports.

Next said that its operations will start with support from staff who are "willing and able" to return to work in the near future.

In a statement, the company said: "The idea is to begin selling in low volumes, so that we only need a small number of colleagues in each warehouse at any one time, helping to ensure rigorous social distancing is complied with."

As part of the new plan, Next will allow customers to order a small number of items it believes can be picked up safely on a given day.

The company would then stop taking orders and make the site "browse only" until the next day.
