HARTFORD, Conn. _ With just over two months to go until the basketball season tips off, another piece of the puzzle that is the UConn women's team's 2019-2020 schedule is now in place.
South Carolina announced Wednesday that the Gamecocks will host UConn at Colonial Life Arena on Monday, Feb. 10, 2020. The exact time will be announced at a later date.
The Gamecocks, slotted four spots behind UConn at No. 7 in ESPN bracketologist Charlie Creme's most recent preseason rankings, lost seven players from last year but return several key pieces and boast the top recruiting class in the country.
The rest of South Carolina's non-conference schedule includes games against Maryland, reigning national champion Baylor, and Clemson.
This season's matchup will mark the ninth meeting between the two basketball powerhouses. UConn is a perfect 8-0 against South Carolina, with all but one game occurring during the regular season. The Huskies beat the Gamecocks in the 2017 Albany Regional final to advance to the program's 11th consecutive Final Four.
Last year, Napheesa Collier and Katie Lou Samuelson combined for 60 points to lead UConn to a 97-79 victory over South Carolina. The Gamecocks later fell to eventual national champion Baylor in the Sweet 16.
The February matchup will cap an exciting few weeks for UConn, which hosts historic rival Tennessee on Jan. 23, 2020 at the XL Center and Oregon, a Final Four team from last season, at Gampel Pavilion on Feb. 3, 2020.
South Carolina and UConn will meet for at least another two seasons after this one: The schools extended their series through 2021-22, with the Huskies hosting in 2020-21 and the Gamecocks in 2021-22.
