People interested in joining the ranks of Canberra's firefighters will be targeted in a new government recruitment campaign, set to start on Friday.
Emergency Services Minister Mick Gentleman said the territory government would recruit 99 extra firefighters on top of current staff levels to ensure frontline emergency services were well resourced.
"We strongly encourage people from a broad range of backgrounds to apply, in particular women, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds and people from the LGBTIQ community," Mr Gentleman said.
ACT Fire and Rescue acting chief officer Matthew Mavity said people who had missed out in previous rounds should reapply.
"Being a firefighter is no ordinary job - the work is varied, challenging and rewarding," Mr Mavity said.
"Whether you're ambitious, a challenge seeker, looking to help your local community or just looking for a rewarding career and lifestyle, we strongly encourage you to apply when applications open for the next intake."
ACT Fire and Rescue struck an agreement with the firefighters' union in June last year that included bolstering ranks, after a protracted period of negotiations.
