Next generation make statement at Elland Road to save Leeds United in Bournemouth thriller

Leeds United recovered from being 3-1 down to win 4-3 against Bournemouth at Elland Road to move up to 12th in the Premier League table.

Here's a look at the winners and losers from the clash.

Winners

Sam Greenwood

The midfielder scored a wonder goal to set Leeds on their way in the second half after replacing Marc Roca, who had struggled to really get a foothold in the game. Picking the ball up on the edge of the area, Greenwood hit a curling first time effort into the top corner of Mark Travers' net.

That gave Elland Road the lift they needed and he went on to set up the equalising goal as his corner was bundled into the back of the net by Liam Cooper. The youngster has been used sparingly this season, but Marsch will certainly look his way more often after helping to turn the tide for the Whites.

Crysencio Summerville

Two successive starts, two successive match winners. It’s been some week for Summerville, who kept his cool to poke home Leeds’ fourth with six minutes remaining.

The winger was making his first Premier League home start against the Cherries and he made an instant impact, being fouled in the area and winning the Whites a penalty with just a couple of minutes on the clock. For the most part Bournemouth did well to manage his threat as the game wore on, but with the pressure on, they could do little to stop the 21-year-old in the closing moments.

Showing composure and confidence, Summerville latched onto a Willy Gnonto throughball and poked the ball beyond Travers to raise the Elland Road roof.

Wilfried Gnonto

Gnonto only made his Leeds debut last week, but Marsch looked his way at half-time to replace Jack Harrison on the right wing and it’s fair to say the youngster helped to transform the contest. He showed confidence on the ball almost immediately, driving forward with intent and looking to make things happen.

He helped Leeds to steady themselves and his ability on the ball down the flank was noted, giving the Bournemouth full-back something different to think about. He was the man that set up the match winning goal, too, taking the ball confidently from his own defensive third to the edge of the Cherries' box, before putting it on a plate for Summerville.

Why hasn’t Marsch looked his way previously? That’s the question every Leeds fan will have been asking as they left Elland Road.

Losers

Jack Harrison

The winger started the season so brightly but his form has dipped dramatically over the last few weeks. He struggled to make an impact in the win at Anfield and he found the going difficult on Saturday against the Cherries.

He’s struggling for confidence right now and it showed in his play at Elland Road, consistently making poor decisions, turning into traffic, missing the openings and coughing possession up cheaply. Harrison’s day was summed up when he was replaced by Wilfried Gnonto at half-time.

Rasmus Kristensen

Kristensen has been one of Leeds’ best in recent weeks, recovering from his poor start to the season to find traction in Marsch’s side. However, he was some way short of his best in the first half against Bournemouth as he struggled to deal with the threat of Marcus Tavernier down the edge.

The winger bagged Bournemouth’s first after being left wide open by the right-back and he had a huge say in their second, burning Kristensen for pace before setting up Philip Billing on the edge of the area. He redeemed himself somewhat in the second half, as did most of the Leeds squad, but he was still vulnerable at times.

Patrick Bamford

The striker’s injury frustrations continue. Bamford has been in and out of the side this season, but his absence from the squad was noted when the team news was released an hour before kick-off.

The news swiftly filtered through that Bamford had picked up a minor injury and while he wasn’t fit enough to take on Bournemouth, he should be fit for the trip to Tottenham in a week’s time. Bamford has been luckless with injuries once more this season, but he might benefit from the World Cup break.
