Next generation complete latest rout as Nottingham Forest Under-23s tighten grip on top spot

Nottingham Forest Under-23s strengthened their grip on top spot in the Professional Development League with a 5-1 thrashing of Barnsley.

The Reds won at a canter at the Nigel Doughty Academy this afternoon thanks to goals from Will Swan (2), Victor Sodiende, Alex Mighten and a further strike from a trialist.

The win did come at a cost though with right-back Jordan Gabriel, who made his senior debut against Arsenal, going off injured in the first half.

Swan gave Forest the lead when he headed a corner home in the ninth minute.

The trialist then doubled the advantage in the 26th minute before Barnsley pulled one back five minutes after the break.

Swan's 68th minute penalty maintained the striker's impressive start to the season with Sodiende (83) and Mighten, who also made his debut at Arsenal, completing the scoring with Mighten's goal coming five minutes from the end.

Forest: Siampanis, Gabriel, Preston (c), Fornah, Rama, Stewart, Trialist, Barnes, Swan, Asare, Mighten; Subs: Statham, Gallacher, Sodeinde, Hayes, Spooner
