Next Galway Hurling manager odds: Mattie Kenny the favourite for vacant Tribesmen job

Mattie Kenny could run off on Dublin to take the reins at his native Galway, according to the latest betting odds.

Galway hurling was left in shock last night when Micheal Donoghue announced he was stepping down from the hot seat after four years in charge.

Donoghue's decision came as a surprise to Galway County Chairman Pat Kearney who said that "hopefully by the 1st of October we'll have a man in place."

The favourite to be the Tribesmen's new boss is the current Dublin manager Mattie Kenny who masterminded a victory over his native county this summer that knocked the 2017 All-Ireland winners out of the Championship.

Kenny is currently priced at 13/8 for the top job, while Jeffrey Lynskey, who led the Tribesmen to three minor All-Irelands in four years, is next in at 9/4.

A Paddy Power spokesperson said: “Micheal Donoghue’s decision to step down as hurling manager has hit Galway harder than a snackbox shortage on a Saturday night. Mattie Kenny currently heads the betting and could be set to flee the capital to head back west.

“Speaking of snackboxes, Supermac’s supremo and Galway team sponsor Pat McDonagh is available at odds of 150/1 for the job, although it’s feared he may make a meal of it.
