Chris Rock, Jack Huston, Jason Schwartzman and musician Andrew Bird are among the luminaries are headed to Chicago this fall to shoot the new season of “Fargo.”
FX said Season 4, scheduled to air in 2020, will depict two crime bosses in 1950 Kansas City — one Italian, one African American — who have traded their youngest sons as a way of keeping the peace.
The first episode will be directed by Noah Hawley, who created the Emmy-winning “Fargo” series, a true crime anthology that aims to match the mood of the classic movie of the same name, directed by Joel and Ethan Coen.
Rock will play the head of one of the crime families, who is raising the youngest son of his Italian rival as part of the peace arrangement. The stability collapses when the Italian mob leader dies in surgery.
A statement from FX said the season is set against the context of two sets of outsiders — Southern European immigrants, and Deep South African Americans fleeing Jim Crow — converging in northern U.S. cities at mid-century.
“It’s a story of immigration and assimilation, and the things we do for money,” the statement added.” And as always, a story of basically decent people who are probably in over their heads.”
It’s not the first local TV work for Rock, also one of the nation’s most respected stand-up comedians. He also came to town to film an arc on the Chicago-based “Empire.”
