Next confirms it is opening huge new store inside former Forever 21 building

Next is opening a huge new store in Liverpool city centre after it announced the closure of its current Church Street site.

Back in July, Next confirmed to the ECHO it was planning on closing its current store which is located next to River Island but promised another city centre premises.

Signs are now up outside the massive building on the corner of Church Street and Whitechapel, which was previously home to Forever 21, confirming Next will be the new retailer.

The building is split across multiple floors which will no doubt delight shoppers as it appears bigger than Next's current site.

In July, an application to carry out work at Next's store was submitted to Liverpool City Council on behalf of retail management company Redevco.

The document said: "Next intend to vacate the unit within the next few months upon cessation of their current lease, which has resulted in the need to consider alternative options for the use of the floorspace.

"Due to the size of the retail unit (circa 7,700 sq. m total floorspace) there is no single retail operator which has expressed an interest in occupying the entirety of the floorspace, however interest in the space has been received from a range of occupiers including retail, leisure and storage operators.

"At this time, the final tenancy arrangements have not yet been finalised, which has produced the requirement for the floorspace to accommodate a flexible range of uses."

The application is to change the use of the buildings floors including its basement and for them to be "retained in active economic uses by re-purposing the floorspace for a flexible range of uses"

The ECHO has contacted Next for a comment.
