Next Chelsea manager: The latest on Frank Lampard and when he will replace Maurizio Sarri

Maurizio Sarri officially left Chelsea on Sunday afternoon, however the Blues are yet to make their move for his replacement.

For weeks now, Frank Lampard has been the front runner to take over from the Italian, however as yet he still remains the manager of Derby County.

As of this morning (Friday), the Blues have still not made their official approach through to the Rams hierarchy to get to Lampard and start the negotiations.

According to the Derby Telegraph , the Rams are still awaiting the approach and are being left a little in the dark over their manager's future come next season.

They also report that Derby will not stand in the way of Lampard should he want to make the switch back to Stamford Bridge, which the Blues legend does want to do.

However, while the time it has taken for Chelsea to make their move for the former midfielder has been frustrating for the fans, Lampard is still set to be the next Blues head coach.

Lampard is currently on holiday as he celebrates his 41st birthday, and is expected to complete the deal to be the next Chelsea manager on his return at the beginning of next week.

With the transfer ban still looming, Lampard is seen as the best candidate to see the Blues through the summer and into the new season,  with Jody Morris at his side.

Meanwhile, the Blues announced this morning that Petr Cech had returned to Stamford Bridge to be Chelsea's new Technical and Performance Advsor.
