Next Chelsea manager: Former Blues skipper backs Roman Abramovich to make the right call

Former Chelsea captain Marcel Desailly has backed Blues owner Roman Abramovich to make the right call when appointing his former side's next manager.

The Russian is once again looking for another boss following Maurizio Sarri's decision to leave for Juventus.

Abramovich has used 13 different managers, including caretakers, during his 16 year tenure at Stamford Bridge, and is known for giving his coaches little time in being able to turn things around.

But despite his reputation, Desailly has backed the Russian to make the right call this summer, claiming the 52-year-old has a proven track record in picking managers.

“We need to understand and to trust the fact that every single time Abramovich or the management of Chelsea have been able to get the correct coach to go for victory,” the French World Cup winner told Standard Sport.

“Europa League this year, third position, we were not very pleased about the way Chelsea played this year but how do you want them to go forward and win? There are two crazy teams [in front]: Liverpool and City.

“Sarri, they found him from somewhere, so I’m sure they will find another coach, now that they cannot buy new players, who has a good philosophy to use the players that they have at the moment, from Pedro, to Willian, to [Olivier] Giroud, to have a better tactical setup.”
