Next Chelsea manager: Derby County make late bid to scupper Frank Lampard plans

Derby County might have just thrown a spanner in the works of Chelsea's plans by trying to get Frank Lampard to sign a new deal.

The Blues legend is the hot favourite to take over from Maurizio Sarri this summer with Juventus having agreed a compensation package with the Premier League side over the Italian.

Sarri told the club that he wanted to leave just after the Europa League final, but negotiations have been longer than expected and the deal is yet to be officially announced.

The Blues were ready to move to replace the Italian, however are yet to make their move on Lampard despite being the favourite.

And now the Rams are trying to see if they can pin Lampard down to a new deal, according to the Derby Telegraph.

Lampard had an impressive first season with Derby County, finishing sixth in the Championship but then losing in the play-off final to Aston Villa.

Derby are not going to stand in Lampard's way should he make it clear that he wants to make a return to Stamford Bridge to replace Sarri.

However, the Rams hierarchy are hoping to make a late bid to keep him by improving his terms with the Midlands side.
