Next Cardiff manager: Charlton boss Lee Bowyer frontrunner alongside Neil Harris

Charlton manager Lee Bowyer and former Millwall boss Neil Harris are the frontrunners to replace Neil Warnock at Cardiff.

Warnock left Cardiff by mutual consent on Monday night

Bowyer and Harris have emerged at the leading candidates to take over at the Welsh club and Charlton are now braced for an approach for their manager.

Bowyer, 42 has impressed with the job he has done at Charlton and he has less than 12 months left on his contract at the Valley.

Charlton owner Roland Duchatelet has failed to tie Bowyer down to a long-term deal which has left the Addicks vulnerable to losing their manager. Harris, who walked away from Millwall in October after more than four years in charge, is also in the frame for the job.

Harris, 42, spent time on loan at Cardiff in 2004. He was the seventh longest-serving manager in England before he left Millwall after a section of fans turned on him. He guided the Lions to promotion to the Championship in 2017 and took them to two FA Cup quarter-finals.

Warnock, 70, leaves Cardiff with the club second from bottom in the Championship and is now set to retire.
