Next Bristol City manager: Ryan Lowe the new favourite after Lee Johnson sacking

Less than 24 hours on from Bristol City beginning their search for a new manager, bookmakers have a clear favourite to take over at Ashton Gate.

The Robins are looking for a new boss after Lee Johnson was sacked following Saturday’s defeat to Cardiff City – their fourth successive loss in the Championship.

Former City manager Tony Pulis was an early favourite to make a return, while Chris Hughton was also heavily featured in the early betting.

But the morning after Johnson’s departure, Plymouth Argyle boss Ryan Lowe is the new favourite to lead the Robins.

The former striker has enjoyed success in the early stages of his managerial career, earning successive promotions from League Two with Bury last season, and the Pilgrims this campaign.

He’s now at evens with both Sky Bet and BetVictor, suggesting there’s been a flurry of bets on him overnight.

Hughton remains a prominent name in the betting, sitting at 9/4 with Sky Bet and 2/1 with BetVictor, while the aptly-named Mark Robins – who led Coventry City back to the Championship this season – also features.

Mick McCarthy, who is available after his time as Republic of Ireland manager came to an end, remains in the running, while Pulis has now drifted out as far as 18/1, suggesting there isn’t too much interest in the former Stoke boss.
