Next Bristol City manager: Paul Cook odds crash ahead of Wigan Athletic exit

Paul Cook is the new big name in the running for the Bristol City vacancy after his odds crashed last night following reports that he was poised to leave Wigan Athletic.

The Latics are set to discover their fate this week after appealing their 12-point deduction for entering administration but it is expected their punishment will be upheld.

That will see Wigan relegated to League One, with Barnsley benefitting from the situation to retain Championship status, and a mass exodus from the club is expected.

Cook has joined Chris Hughton on City's shortlist and the betting scene changed dramatically following reports that he was set to leave his post with the club.

Cook leapfrogged Chris Hughton to the spot of favourite for the job this morning, with the former Portsmouth manager now being given odds of 4/6 to take over at Ashton Gate, while Chris Hughton now sits at 3/1 with Bet Victor.

Preston North End manager Alex Neil is next in line at 12/1, sitting next to Plymouth manager Ryan Lowe, who is also at 12/1.

Former Huddersfield manager Danny Cowley is next at 16/1, followed by the likes of Nigel Adkins and Steven Gerrard.
