Next Ayr United manager: Kilwinning Rangers boss Chris Strain makes bookies' shortlist

Kilwinning Rangers boss Chris Strain has been quoted in the betting odds to be Ayr United's new manager.

McBookie.com have priced the Buffs boss as a 33/1 outsider to replace Ian McCall who quit this week to join Partick Thistle.

Strain, 39, spent almost 18 months as a player at the Honest Men in his mid 20s - signing in 2005 before leaving for Irvine Meadow in early 2007.

Only Tommy Molloy - another former Ayr star - is priced higher at 50/1.

The pair are in illustrious company with the likes of Rangers legend Barry Ferguson and former English Premiership boss Owen Coyle also in the frame.

Strain was today unavailable for comment but his CV at Junior level speaks for itself.

He moved into management with Kilwinning Rangers five years ago and has led them from the bottom rung of the West Region to the top flight.

He's enjoyed some successful cup runs too, reaching the final of the West of Scotland Cup in 2015 and winning the Ayrshire Cup in 2018.
