Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has discussed a potential move to Arsenal for his assistant Mikel Arteta.
The former Gunners midfielder is joint-favourite with the bookies to become the next Arsenal manager alongside Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo, as Unai Emery's delicate position hangs by a thread.
Arsenal are off to a poor start this season, and six games without a win is now their worst run of form in 20 years.
Emery seems to be safe for now, but a lack of change in performances and results will surely lead to his dismissal.
Arteta has been Guardiola's assistant since he retired as a player in 2016, and the Manchester City was asked during a press conference about his assistant's future.
"For sure he will be a manager," Guardiola told reporters.
"I would like him to stay with us as long as possible. But personal life is personal life, his professional desire is professional.
"He was a holding midfielder, he had incredible vision on the pitch. He’s an incredible human being, he has a great work ethic. I said after a few months of being together that he would be a manager one day.”
Arteta spent five years as an Arsenal player, becoming club captain in 2014 after previously taking on the role during Robin van Persie's absence. He won two FA Cups while at the Emirates Stadium.
