Former Valencia manager Marcelino is the new favourite for the permanent manager job at Arsenal.
The Spaniard, who parted ways with Los Che in September, boarded a flight to London on Sunday, according to reports in Spain, fuelling talk he could be the man to replace Unai Emery.
Former captain Patrick Vieira remains in the frame and while the current Nice boss says he is concentrated on that particular project, he couldn't hide his interest in a return to north London.
“You know, a club that you spend nine years in, cannot leave you unmoved,” he told French broadcaster Canal+.
Massimiliano Allegri, a former favourite with the bookies, has slipped down to 10-1.
Standard Sport understands Allegri is open to the idea of moving to north London but would need to be convinced of both the club’s ambition and the sincerity of their interest, having been left disappointed by the process when interviewed after Wenger left Arsenal in the summer of 2018.
Arteta meanwhile was one possible option for the club when Arsene Wenger left, only for Arsenal to move for Emery.
