Next Arsenal manager: Paulo Sousa 'on the list' of candidates to replace Unai Emery

The entourage of Bordeaux boss Paulo Sousa have confirmed that they have received interest from Arsenal, who are seeking a replacement for Unai Emery.

The Portuguese boss is available with a minimal buyout clause, reported to be worth around €2million to €3million, inserted into his contract with the Ligue 1 side - which is added when he penned a new deal in March.

AC Milan have also reportedly eyed Sousa previously but Arsenal 's interest may throw a spanner into the works, with a potential swoop lined up in the coming weeks.

"Arsenal like his profile, not just as a coach but also as a person. This does not mean that he will leave. They are in talks with multiple candidates but Paulo is part of that list, certainly. Between the two, it could work," he told L'Equipe.

"But with all the problems currently ongoing at Bordeaux, why wouldn’t he leave? The project is not what was promised to him, that is a fact. He loves the fans but he needs more from the board, the team is not strong enough to finish in the top 6.”

However, Eduardo Macia, Bordeaux's Director of Football, stated that they have not received contact from any club: “It would be normal that teams are interested in him but we have not been contacted.”

Bordeaux currently sit fifth in Ligue 1, just two points behind the Champions League spots and ahead of established clubs like Lyon and Monaco.
