
One of Newcastle's young gin distilleries has snared a handful of medals for its products.
Newy Distillery took home one gold and three bronze medals at the recent Australian Gin Awards run by the Australian Gin Distillers Association.
Newy Distillery won a gold medal for its Dry Gin and bronze medals for its Passionfruit Gin, Pumpkin Spice Gin and Coal Miner Strength Gin.
The unique dry gin is created with a range of ingredients, including juniper berry, coriander, cassia bark and lemon peel.
The Coal Miner Strength Gin is a unique blend of 16 ingredients sourced locally and across the globe, It registers 55% ABV.
The Pumpkin Spice Gin is gluten free, low in sugar, and vegan-friendly.
There were 370 gins from 109 Australian and 11 New Zealand companies entered in the awards.
"We're absolutely thrilled to receive these awards," Newy Distillery owner Luke Storey says. "It gives us an enormous amount of encouragement to know that what we are doing is being held in such high regard. This is a wonderful achievement for us."
Newy Distillery also won awards for their Signature Gin, Dry Gin, and Mint, Cucumber & Lime Vodka at this year's International Wine and Spirits Competition.
Newy Distillery have released six gins in 2021.
The distillers plan to launch some special editions for the coming summer. They make a wide range of flavoured vodka and gin products.
A range of whisky products is in the pipeline, with a 2025 launch expected.
BACKGROUND
Newy Distillery was founded in Newcastle by Luke and Kimberly Storey.
It operates out of two warehouses.
Newy's Hidden Gem cocktail bar at its Edgeworth distillery on Aluminium Close will reopen this Friday and Saturday, operating from 5pm to midnight each evening.
Bookings are recommended.
Newy Distillery operates a click-and-collect service from 10am to 5pm on weekdays at the Edgeworth site for online orders.
The business began in the Storeys' home shed. They will celebrate three years of trading at the end of this year.
