Newtownards robbery sees shop worker 'threatened with a knife'

A member of staff at a Newtownards shop has allegedly been threatened with a knife in an 'armed robbery'.

The incident happened on High Street on Sunday night, July 18, when the man is said to have demanded money from the worker.

PSNI Detective Sergeant Westbury said: “Police received a report just before 10:15pm that a man, armed with a knife, entered the premises between 9:50pm and 9:55pm. It was reported he made his way behind the counter where he threatened a staff member with a knife and demanded money.

"The suspect fled the shop with a sum of money and made off on a dark-coloured bicycle in the direction of Conway Square. He is described as being aged in his mid-20s, approximately 5’ 10” to 5’ 11” in height, of a slim build with dark fair hair and was wearing a black-coloured jacket, black tracksuit bottoms with white stripes on the sides and light grey trainers.

“While, thankfully, the staff member was physically unharmed, this was a terrifying experience for them.”

Anyone who was in the area and witnessed the incident, or saw a male matching this description in the area last night is asked to call detectives on 101, quoting reference number 2277 of 18/07/21.
