A motorcyclist has died after a crash in Co Down.

Emergency services were called to the Ballyblack Road East, between Newtownards and Millisle down the Ards Peninsula, at 4.50pm on Thursday, April 1, following a collision between a motorbike and a car.

On Friday, police confirmed that a man had died following the collision. He was the motorcyclist and sadly died at the scene from his injuries.

Police later named him as 66-year-old Alisdair Wallace from the Kircubbin area.

Inspector Robinson said: "It was reported to police at 4.50pm that a car and a motorbike were involved in a collision. Tragically, the motorcyclist died at the scene following his injuries.

"Enquiries are continuing and police would appeal to anyone who witnessed the collision or why may have dash-cam footage available, to contact police on 101 quoting reference 1467 of 01/04/21."

Meanwhile, on Wednesday police confirmed a man in his 20s died following a crash on the M1 earlier that morning.

It's understood he was the driver of one of three vehicles involved in the crash which happened on the westbound carriageway close to the Moira off slip shortly before 5am.
