Newtownards attack: Man left with serious head injury after 'hammer assault'

A man has been left with a serious head injury after 'being attacked by a number of men armed with a hammer' in Co Down.

The serious assault took place the Upper Greenwell Street area of Newtownards on Friday night, December 10.

Police said the man, in his 30s, was found by officers lying in the middle of the road. It is understood the man had been attacked by a number of men, with one of them armed with a hammer.

Detective Sergeant Westbury said: “Shortly before 10:45pm, police located a man in his 30s lying in the middle of the road in the area. It was reported that the man had been attacked by a number of men, with one of them armed with a hammer. The man was taken to hospital for treatment for a serious head injury

“Enquiries are continuing to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and police would appeal to anyone who was in the area at the time of the incident, to contact them on 101 quoting reference number 1934 10/12/21.
