Newtownabbey V36 Skate Park works due to start this summer

Work on Newtownabbey's "first class" skate park is due to start before the end of the summer.

Plans for the skate park are part of the V36 Urban Sports Park project, which is supported by the Peace IV Shared Space and funded by the Special EU Programmes Body (SEUPB).

It has been earmarked for a site beside the Valley Leisure Centre and it is estimated that it will take five months to complete with the council hoping work will start before the end of the summer

Work is due to start as soon as possible after £750,000 European funding was approved.

It is understood three tenders for construction of the V36 skate park have been submitted to Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council.

Mayor of Antrim and Newtownabbey Councillor Jim Montgomery said: “This is great news for the Borough. Skateboarding has really taken off and there is a great demand for this facility.

"As a council we are continually looking to improve and develop leisure facilities for our residents and this skate park is only part of a developing programme of enhancements."
