Newton Mearns school closed after coronavirus case confirmed

A Newton Mearns school has been closed after the emergence of a coronavirus case linked to the school.

East Renfrewshire Council confirmed that the Isobel Mair School and Nursery will be shut tomorrow (Monday, March 16) following the discovery of the confirmed COVID-19 case.

The school will reopen "as soon as possible".

Class Yell and Unst pupils and staff who attend Woodfarm High will attend school as normal.

In a statement, East Renfrewshire Council said it had taken the decision to temporarily close Isobel Mair School on Monday "as a precautionary measure following the emergence of a coronavirus case linked to the school".

It added: "The school is currently contacting staff and parents to inform them of the decision and of our intention to reopen the school as soon as possible.

"The individual with coronavirus is self-isolating at home and is giving no cause for concern."

There are 153 confirmed cases of coronavirus across Scotland, according to figures released by the Scottish Government today. One person has died as a result of contradicting the virus.

The Greater Glasgow and Clyde area has 39 confirmed cases - an increase of eight since yesterday.
