Newton Mearns road closed for 10 weeks in bid to prevent sewer flooding

Residents of Newton Mearns may experience traffic and travel disruption on account of further roadworks in the area.

'Essential work' recently got underway in a bid to combat sewer flooding. However, as of this morning, Friday July 12, a section of Broompark Drive has been closed, and could remain so for 10 weeks, to facilitate further works.

A statement issued by Scottish Water advised: "Scottish Water is carrying out essential work to upgrade its infrastructure in Newton Mearns.

"Work to help prevent sewer flooding in Broompark Drive began on Monday 1 July and involves the upsizing of sewers in the area.

"To enable the work to take place, road traffic management has been agreed in conjunction with East Renfrewshire Council.

'From Friday 12 July, a section of Broompark Drive, south of its junction with Dunvegan Drive to the junction of Dunbeath Ave, will be closed to through traffic for around ten weeks.

"Local access will be provided and drivers are urged to follow diversions in place.

"Scottish Water’s alliance partners amey Black and Veatch (aBV) are carrying out the work which is expected to take around twelve weeks for completion.

"Scottish Water would like to thank the local community and road users in advance for their patience and understanding while this essential work is carried out."
