Newton Mearns Aldi police incident: Cops searching for occupants of car that mounted pavement

Searches are being carried out for the occupants of a vehicle in relation to an ongoing police incident in Newton Mearns.

A large police presence has been spotted outside the Aldi store on Greenlaw Way this afternoon.

Armed officers and sniffer dogs have been deployed to the scene south of Glasgow with roads around the supermarket cordoned off and helicopter reported to be circling the area.

Police confirm that they were called to Pollokshaws Road around 3pm this afternoon following reports that a car had mounted the pavement before driving from the scene, with the car then traced in Greenlaw Way.

Police believed that there is no threat to the wider public, as enquiries into the full circumstances of the incident remain ongoing.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: "Police were called to Pollokshaws Road in Glasgow around 3pm on Tuesday, 13 April, following a report that a car had mounted the pavement before driving from the scene. This car has been traced in Greenlaw Way and officers are carrying out searches in the area for the occupants.

"Enquiries into the full circumstances of the incident are ongoing and there is not believed to be any threat to the wider public."
