Newton Heath shooting: Gunshots fired at a car as police rush to scene and close road

Police officers have rushed to the scene of a shooting in Manchester.

The incident happened between three cars on Briscoe Lane in Newton Heath, Manchester, shortly before 1.50pm today, police said.

The road has been shut while officers investigate the incident, although there are no reports of any injuries or arrests.

A member of the public is believed to have reported a firearm discharge to the police, the Manchester Evening News reports.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said: "At around 1.45pm earlier today (Tuesday 19 January 2021), police were called to Briscoe Lane, Manchester to reports of a possible firearms discharge.

Further enquiries have since established that three cars were travelling through the area when shots were fired from one of the vehicles towards another.

All three cars fled the scene a short time later.

At this stage no person has been reported injured and it is unknown if the car that was fired upon was hit.

A scene remains in place on Briscoe Lane and anybody with information is urged to contact police.

This can be done online via the force website or by calling 101, quoting incident number 1373 of 19/01/2021.

Anonymous reports can be made via the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 111."
