A newsreader has been left with a fractured skull after a bar room brawl – with her own weather presenter.

Erica Bivens – an anchor on US local channel WSAZ – also suffered a bleeding ear drum after she and meteorologist Chelsea Ambriz grappled.

Ms Bivens had accused her colleague of flirting with her husband, Donald, before the two came to blows in Huntington, West Virginia, according to the Charleston Gazette-Mail.

A police report said: "Erica advised that she had problems with Chelsea in the past as far as her being aggressive towards her.

"Erica said that her and her husband didn’t think anything of it until later in the evening Chelsea began to hit on Donald.

"Donald told Chelsea that he was not interested in her and went back over and stood with Erica.

"Donald mentioned to Erica about what had just happened and so Erica went and confronted Chelsea about it.

"Erica said that Chelsea then became irate and began to shove Erica causing both of them to fall over in the bar area.”

Following the confrontation, Ms Bivens was rushed to a nearby hospital with hearing loss.

Ms Ambriz, 26, was arrested and charged with misdemeanour battery. She will appear in court on 21 September, and faces up to a year in jail if convicted on assault charges.

She has reportedly told friends she has been suspended from her job, according to The Sun.
