Newspapers thrive as India's media grows

Newspapers are thriving in India, according to figures released by the National Readership Survey (NRS). Its latest report claims that print media readership has grown from 206m to 222m in a year, and that this is driven largely by papers because magazines are supposedly in decline. Other points from the survey: press reach has stabilised in urban India at 45% and in rural India at 19%; satellite TV has grown considerably, expanding its lead over newspaper readers to 230m regular viewers; radio has enjoyed a resurgence, increasing its reach to 27% of the population. Sadly, no figures here for internet use. (Via Newswatch India)
