Newspapers operate a 'hierarchy of death'

Why do some murders get huge media coverage while others are virtually ignored? In the light of the way the Sian O'Callaghan murder was reported, I have asked that question in my London Evening Standard column today. And I've provided some answers by arguing that newspapers operate a hierarchy of death.
