A regional daily is to mark remembrance day by publishing a special Sunday issue with an original painting, reports HoldTheFrontPage.
The painting that will appear on the front page of the Darlington-based Northern Echo is a closely guarded secret. The paper commissioned the work from Middlesbrough-born artist Mackenzie Thorpe, who now works from a studio in Hove.
Inside pages will feature photographs of soldiers from the north east who died in the 1914-18 war along with a selection of historic front pages from the Echo's archives.
On sale for £1, the special edition will result in a donation of 10p for every copy sold to the Phoenix House rehabilitation centre, established by Help For Heroes at Catterick garrison. It is part of the paper's "£100,000 for 100 years" campaign, which was launched earlier this year.
Thorpe's painting will be kept under wraps until a digital unveiling on the title's website at 7pm on Saturday (8 November).
