The Leicester Mercury launched a campaign designed to boost the morale of British troops serving in Iraq after the death of a local soldier in a bomb attack. The paper asked readers to send well-wishing messages to his fellow soldiers and reports that its campaign has had a huge response. Major Paul Leslie, the commanding officer of Royal Anglian Regiment's 2nd Battalion, Leicestershire company, wrote back to paper that the letters have made "a real difference to the morale of our soldiers.
