1. MOONLIGHT Barry Jenkins' film about a gay African-American growing up in a Miami ghetto _ from difficult boyhood to traumatic adolescence to shame-riddled adulthood _ takes us into a little-explored world with evocative visual style and some of the most moving performances you'll see all year.
