JADWAL is fancied to give Charlie Hills a pre-Royal Ascot boost by landing the Pavers Foundation Catherine Memorial Sprint Handicap (3.40) at York.

Hills, who saddles title-holder Battaash in Tuesday’s Group 1 King’s Stand Stakes, holds a strong hand in today’s six-furlong test – the Lambourn trainer is also represented by the strongly fancied Dark Shift.

But preference is for Jadwal, who began his 2021 campaign with second placing’s in all-weather handicaps at Kempton and Lingfield Park.

Back on turf, the gelded son of Mustajeeb – the winner of a Newmarket novice event from three starts at two – put up a personal best with another silver medal in a valuable six-furlong handicap back at Headquarters.

Jadwal finished clear of the remainder when running the well-treated Jumby to three-quarters of a length.

Jim Crowley’s mount is 7lb higher here, but has plenty of scope for further improvement on the eighth start of his career.
