MASTER GREY can give his rivals weight and a beating in the Top Odds Every Day With BetUK Handicap (2.40) at Southwell on Friday.
The Rod Millman-trained grey, whose only previous visit to Southwell resulted in a head defeat last November, returned to Nottinghamshire for an amateur riders’ handicap over a mile and a half last month.
And Master Grey, ridden by Millman’s son Patrick, returned to winning form with a two-and-a-quarter-length margin from Bascinet.
The handicapper has reacted with a 4lb rise in the weights to a new rating of 59, but the eight-year-old has won off higher marks in the past.
Master Grey tackles a mile and three-quarters here, but Ross Coakley’s mount has winning form over the trip – and further – so stamina won’t be an issue.
At Chelmsford, BOND BOY is fancied to register a fourth triumph of 2023 when he faces six opponents for the St Valentine’s Weekend Handicap (7.45).
After a first career success at Wolverhampton at the start of January, Mick Appleby’s son of Equiano followed a defeat at Southwell with another win at Dunstall Park on his penultimate outing.
Bond Boy has a 5lb penalty as a result of a two-length supremacy at the Essex Showground eight days ago, and should keep the ball rolling here.
