Newsboy's ITV Saturday racing tips for Haydock, Goodwood, York and the Curragh plus Irish 2,000 Guineas verdict

LIVE IN THE DREAM (3.30) can run his rivals to sleep and awaken the sport to the skills of Epsom trainer Adam West.

West, who with a string of 50 is helping put the home of the Derby back on the map as a training centre, has yet to win a Group race.

But he has been knocking on the door with Live In The Dream and it can finally open at Haydock in the Betfred Temple Stakes.

The four-year-old has won two of his three starts this year, taking handicaps at Lingfield and Pontefract, and then produced a lifetime best to finish second behind Vadream in the Palace House Stakes at Newmarket.

He led the field a merry dance until caught late in the race and, on a more conventional flat track like Haydock and quicker ground, he can show a clean pair of heels to his opponents under his regular jockey Sean Kirrane.

ROYAL SCOTSMAN (3.40) can leave his opponents reeling by dancing to victory in the Tattersalls Irish 2,000 Guineas at the Curragh.

The colt has been supplemented into the race after running a fine third in the 2,000 Guineas at Newmarket.

And, granted none of the misfortune he experienced last time out, can deliver a first European Classic for trainer Paul Cole, now in a partnership with son Oliver, since his nineties heyday.

The Coles’ Whatcombe stable enjoyed Classic success in Britain, Ireland and France 30 years ago, notably when Generous captured the 1991 Derby.

On quicker ground than he encountered on the Rowley Mile he can turn the tables on Hi Royal under big race jockey Jamie Spencer.

After a dismal effort in the 2,000 Guineas, LITTLE BIG BEAR (3.00) can reestablish his reputation brought back to sprint distances by Aidan O’Brien for the Sandy Lake Stakes at Haydock..

There were excuses from Newmarket, where he finished lame, but he may also have had little chance of staying 1m on testing going. Back to the minimum trip with Frankie Dettori booked should be more to his liking.

Dettori can also oblige in the Silver Bowl in which he partners COVEY (2.25), the winner of two out of three to date who tackles 1m for the first time.

He hasn’t had to do much to win his last two starts but if the son of Frankel is to be stakes class he should be up to winning a handicap off a rating of 90.

THUNDER AHEAD (1.15) looks a value option in the opening contest while in the next CARZOLA (1.50) should complete a four-timer in the 2m handicap.

At York KORKER (2.40, nb), who ran a corker when finishing best of all to take second over course and distance nine days ago, can go one better in the 5f handicap.

He almost made up for missing the break but fell half a length short of winner Regional, for which he has gone up 3lb, but apprentice Pierre-Lous Jamin’s claim can cancel that out.

MIMIKYU (3.15), last year’s Park Hill winner, has been found a nice comeback opportunity by John and Thady Gosden in the Group 3 Bronte Cup.

FRANCESCO CLEMENTE (1.30, Nap) can stamp her class on her rivals when she returns for her first start since July at Goodwood.

The colt won all three races last year, beating subsequent Great Voltigeur runner-up Secret State in the Wood Ditton Stakes last spring.

On his final appearance he landed a handicap by nine lengths and, with the Prince of Wales’s and Coral-Eclipse Stakes among his big race entries, he will have to be capable of winning the Listed Festival Stakes.

TAFREEJ (3.15) can give a better account of himself than he showed on his comeback at Newbury where he was a beaten favourite.

He finished third, beaten three lengths, but may not have been helped by racing with the less favoured stands side group on soft ground and during a period when the William Haggas stable was not firing on all cylinders.
