News Years Honours: Over 1000 recipients' addresses published in Government error

The PSNI are working closely with the Government after data accidentally published online lead to the addresses of the New Year's Honours recipients being made public.

A list of more than 1,000 names were published on the Government's official website, but has since been removed.

The addresses of 1,097 names published online belong to high-profile stars such as Sir Elton John and Northern Ireland footballer Aaron Hughes.

However, it is unclear whether addresses belonging to senior police officers and politicians were among those made public.

97 people from Northern Ireland, including several members from the PSNI, have been named on New Year Honours list for their services.

The Cabinet Office has apologised for the incident and an said they are investigating the data breach.

A Cabinet Office spokesman said: “A version of the New Year Honours 2020 list was published in error which contained recipients’ addresses.

“The information was removed as soon as possible.

“We apologise to all those affected and are looking into how this happened.

“We have reported the matter to the ICO (Information Commissioner’s Office) and are contacting all those affected directly.”

It is understood that the content could be viewed for about an hour from around 11pm on December 27th.

A spokesperson for the PSNI told Belfast Live: "The PSNI is aware of reports regarding the publication of addresses belonging to New Year’s Honours recipients online.

"We are working closely with the relevant Government Departments to determine what action, if any, needs to be taken."
