News UK PR chief Guto Harri has taken a top communications role at Virgin Media owner Liberty Global.
Harri, who has headed PR at the publisher of the Sun, Times and Sunday Times for three years, will join Liberty Global in the newly created role of managing director of external communications.
The London-based role will see him report into Manuel Kohnstamm, Liberty Global’s senior vice-president and chief corporate affairs officer.
Harri, who officially steps down at News UK at the end of the year, will join Liberty Global in mid-February.
He will be reunited with Tom Mockridge, the chief executive of Virgin Media, the former chief executive of News UK’s predecessor News International.
Harri will work with the team led by Mike Fries, the Liberty Global chief executive, while Virgin Media has its own separate communications function.
Harri is a former BBC political correspondent who worked as London mayor Boris Johnson’s director of external affairs for four years before moving to News UK in 2012 as the publisher looked to limit the the fallout from the phone-hacking scandal.
